The new year brought some big changes for the Camera Couple... We made the decision to sell our first little home that we bought in 2018. Over the last 6 years we had built so many joyous memories there that we are grateful for, and it was time for the next adventure. What's next you ask? Well, we weren't really sure. We listed the house and started searching in South Carolina for where we thought we wanted to land. However, life had other plans for us, as it tends to. Our house ended up selling in 6 days, with a closing date right after the new year. So that didn't leave us much time to find a new home, especially one that we would enjoy for years to come. After a lot of thought, we made the decision to put all of our items in storage and live in our happy little trailer until we found what would be our next home. A few weeks before closing, a log cabin on 7 acres had become available in a small North Carolina town, and we started to seriously consider if this would be the next home for us. We decided to put an offer in on the log cabin and see what happened. Turns out the sellers accepted our offer! The only caveat was that we would have three and a half weeks without a permanent place to stay. So to the woods we went! We started a P.O. Box for mail and camped in the woods until our closing date on the new home. I won't lie, living in a camper is not for the faint of heart. Especially in the winter months when you can't always be outside as much, or the camper has to battle weather (aka frozen water lines). Luckily Cameron and I have done it for so many years, and had so many trips in all seasons, we knew how to navigate being in each other's space 24/7. It's a lot of patience, a lot of being okay with laundromats, and working together to keep everyone happy. A not-so-funny side story, on the night we closed up our home and left for the campground (we still had 3 days before closing thankfully), the campground forgot to give us the gate code to get into the park, so we were locked out and had to drive all the way back "home" to our empty house and park in the driveway for the night. Looking back it's okay to laugh at now, but at the time it was the furthest thing from funny. Believe it or not, the 3.5 weeks went by really fast. Between work, closing on the old home, and doing all the inspections and processes for the new cabin we were actually really busy. I won't lie, by the time February 1st came, we were ready for a little bit of warmth and a new place to call home. If you ask us, would we do it again, I'm not entirely sure what we would say. It's a lot of logistics figuring out mail, credit cards, and licenses, but I know we can definitely say, it was a bucket list item to say we were truly "homeless" and made it work. And now, it's off to the cabin!
