Finding Beauty in the Little Things

A Fab Fourth

Happy 4th of July to all our awesome Camera Couple readers! This is one of our favorite holidays of the year! Why? Because we met on the 4th of July back in 2015. I'll bore you with our love story some other time though.

This year we headed out for some camping in West Virginia to Camp Creek State Park.

I booked this trip early on in 2021 to make sure we could get camping for the long weekend. Originally, John and Bailey were supposed to accompany us, however as the weekend approached, the weather was looking questionable for tenting. The drive from Charlotte is about 3 hours, so we set off Friday after work and got up to the campground early evening. It was an adorable campground tucked away in the mountains of WV. The sites were spacious and had lots of distance between neighbors.
After setting up all my festive 4th decorations around the site, we sat and enjoyed the nice weather. It was a lot cooler than the humid 90 degree weather we had come from and thankfully no rain!

We did a few laps around the campground to see all the other campers celebrating the holiday weekend, before taking Luna on a walk down along the creek. Turns out the road actually brought us to one of the waterfalls in the park! It was really pretty, even though the water looked fairly low. We saw there were 2 waterfalls in the park, so we made plans to try and visit the other one the next morning!

Saturday morning we enjoyed some coffee before getting all our exercise for the day. We started with a walk down to the waterfall to take some pictures. Our thought was that later in the day, more people would venture down to the falls, so we tried to get there before the rush. We got some fun pictures of Cameron attempting to perfect his diving skills, while enjoying the beautiful rock formations.

When we got back to the site, Cameron was itching to take the bikes out, so we did! We did an awesome ride all through the park. The really neat thing about this campground location is that it's a state park and also a state forest, so there was lots to see and do. Almost every picnic table area was occupied by groups having parties or celebrations.

We looped along to check out the equestrian and tent camping areas, as well as the second waterfall in the park, before making our way back to check out the creek. It was really pretty with a little bridge that went over the water.
We saw the gift shop was close by, so we poked our heads in, not entirely expecting to find anything, however we were mistaken. They had adorable bear mugs, stickers, t-shirts, and hats. It was so fun to look around. Sadly, we didn't bring any money with us on the ride, so we reassured the nice park lady that we would be back! We rode on a little more before making our way back to the trailer.

Our butts had become slightly sore from all the riding, so we decided to stretch our legs and head back to the store (I told you, lots of exercise!) Loaded up with some fun new items, we made our way back to the campground to relax the rest of the day.

Originally we were planning to check out on Monday, but our work schedules shifted, and we had a big trip up north coming the following weekend, so we decided to leave Sunday afternoon rather than Monday. Camp Creek was definitely one that we will be visiting again full of awesome views and a lot of peace and quiet.
