A lot of people have been asking now that we finished all 50 states if we are still roaming around, and we absolutely are, but our recent trips have a bit more intention to them...
If you read the Banner Birthday blog from earlier in the year, you would have seen Cameron mentioned that he would return the favor in September for my 30th. And that he did!
For Christmas in 2022, Rose found an awesome deal on a couple inflatable paddleboards online. And by "awesome deal" I mean we barely paid for them!
As many of you might know, Christmas time is a cold time of year. So we didn't get to try out our new adventure toys until the weather got a bit warmer. But finally, it was time! And we were determined to try out our new paddleboards. After a few attempts, at least... I don't even know when my birthday is anymore (much less how old I actually am), but Rose does! And this year she decided to surprise me with a "Banner" birthday trip! That pun will make sense in a moment...
I had no idea where we were going, and she kept the destination a surprise for months — which is a first for us. We hopped in the car, she put the address into the GPS while I looked away, and off we went into the unknown! Well... it never takes long for the Camera Couple to be back out on the road. After an incredible summer stint, we came home to no AC at the house, while trying to get re-packed to go photograph a wedding on the Carolina coast, and our adventures don't even stop there. But hey, do you really wanna read a blog that's just a list of our misfortunes!?
A free week with nothing to do? Okay, it wasn't free (we worked the whole time), but who needs a reason to run off on a camping trip!? Certainly not us! This time, the Camera Couple is off to Georgia for another whirlwind adventure.
After our unfortunate little stint with the transmission in Maryland, we decided it was time to put the Chevy out to pasture and pick up a rig that can actually handle our travel-heavy lifestyle. And only a heavy-duty rig can handle such a heavy-duty lifestyle! So, without any further ado, meet Eugene:
Who needs electric and water hookups!? This weekend, we're putting the new trailer to the off-grid test at Lake Norman State Park in North Carolina.
It might have been only 2,306ft, but we were determined to get to the tippy top of Stone Mountain.
Happy 4th of July, everyone! For the holiday weekend, we headed to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in Apex, North Carolina. ![]() Way back, Rose and I bought tickets to see Old Crow Medicine Show at Pisgah Brewing Company. We had never been there, or even to the area, so we decided to head out a few months early and do a scouting expedition. Other interesting sights in the area include the Blue Ridge Parkway, Catawba Falls, and Mount Mitchell: the highest peak on the east coast. What a perfect opportunity to get in some precious mountain time!
Ever since our Tennessee trip we have been wanting to drive the rest of the Blue Ridge Parkway. And since we are not quitters on roadtrips, we decided to do the entire thing from beginning to end. Well, we already did the end piece so we wanted to finish the rest and go from its start in Charlottesville, VA all the way to Asheville, NC.
I had always heard about how beautiful Cherokee, NC was from my coworkers. Driving through the Great Smokey Mountains it wasn't hard to believe. What we didn't realize that if we had heard it was beautiful, so had everyone else.
We had a free weekend. Finally! Obviously we had to make the best of it. On our wall we have a map of all the states that we have traveled to together and there was a nice little hole right in the middle of our coast states! We had been to every state on all sides of Tennessee but never stepped foot in the state together. I had been with my family previously (Memphis is my favorite) but Rose had never been at all. Well we live in North Carolina now so we don't have any excuse not to go!
We've been here in North Carolina going on seven months now (wow that sounds like a long time...) and we have yet to explore the blue ridge mountains despite the thousands of people that have told us how beautiful they are. Well last weekend Rose and I decided to check them out. Of course we didn't want the popular camping areas with all the people around. We wanted the secluded spots where people rarely ventured. They're more fun anyways.
