We were on our way (finally) to Hamilton Branch State Park! After almost two years since one of the campground hosts at Baker Creek state park suggested Hamilton Branch, we finally decided it was time to go! All I can say is we spent the whole time wondering....what the heck took us so long!? For the first time ever we picked the best site...on accident. It was large and private and had the best view. When you opened the camper door, you looked right at the lake. We spent the Friday evening listening to a throwback of 90's rap music, while enjoying the warm weather for November (70s!). Even Luna Bear was enjoying herself as she watched her crazy parents dance around the campsite. Saturday morning we woke up and decided to take some time enjoying the gorgeous view. It was beautiful outside, so we sat and had some coffee while enjoying the lake view. After a slow start, we took a bike ride to the campground store to get our hang tag pass and poke around to see what goodies they had. Well, of course, they had a bigfoot t-shirt that we HAD to buy. We left the store and headed off to explore the campground. It was a massive campground with tons of sites in different areas of the park. There were several loops, which also meant several hills to trek up on the bikes. Cameron doesn't care for the hills... I always say I should dangle a pizza or beer behind me to motivate him. I bet that would help him up the hills! We made it back to our campsite after a nice ride, so it was time to reward Cameron for all his hard biking. PIZZA! Our favorite little McCormick restaurant that we've talked about from our other trips was close by, and we had to go check on them! We headed to downtown McCormick and explored the shops to see if anything changed while we were gone. We went back into the little antique store on the main street and did some Christmas shopping! After that, it was time for pizza!! Michelle's restaurant was hopping! Their pizza is always so delicious, and somehow the waitress remembered us from last time! I think she remembered Cameron due to his incredible talent of eating a whole large pizza by himself... Cameron and I decided to sit outside. Ya know, with Covid and all we try to be careful but also help out the small businesses. And help we did! Two whole pizzas and lots of beers later, we were satisfied and ready for a nap. We headed back to our campsite and took a walk with Luna to burn off some of the pizza. I think one of our favorite things about Hamilton Branch is that the campsites are all so large and private! Even on our walk, we couldn't get over how many great sites there were. No matter if you're tenting or RV camping there's no bad site! When we got back to our site we decided to try and capture our holiday photo for Christmas cards. Well... I personally think we nailed it. We splashed around in the water for a little bit...or rather Cameron and Luna did while I took pictures of them. Okay fine..I got in just for the Christmas cards sake. Once the sun got lower and it it cooled off, we changed into comfy clothes and started a fire. We cooked dinner while enjoying the sunset over the lake.
We started hearing some noise that sounded like a concert and then loud engines. Turns out the racetrack across the street was having a dirt race, and the sound was carrying! We sat and enjoyed our fire while listening to the cars. I guess I can't ever really escape my work! LOL. We ended the night and awesome weekend already making plans to come back in 2021. We'll definitely bring the canoe! Hamilton Branch is a must-go for anyone who loves the lake and outdoor life.
