After a great adventure in the Windy City it was time to take our trip back down south. Since we were ahead of schedule it seemed like the perfect opportunity to sneak in a few more states and collect more shot glasses. Cameron and I decided to make our way to a small country town in Kentucky where Sundy Best was performing at a fair. For a slight back story, this band is incredibly special to Cameron and I. When Cameron and I met our talking point was about the band. Sundy Best is an on the rise group that was not vastly well known when we met. They have a few albums which I was familiar with because of my brother but no one else really knew them. When I met Cameron he and Corey covered their song "home" which was my favorite and where we got the name for this blog post. I guess Sundy Best helped bring us together. It was on both our concert bucket lists to see them so we decided why not! (because it's the best way to take a road trip is to be spontaneous and have no plans.) So on to Kentucky we went! As we left Chicago early in the morning we outlined a plan to make the concert by 8:00 pm. We knew we would have plenty of time to get there....or so we thought. Naturally we didn't even make it out of the city before we were back in traffic. While we sat patiently barely moving forward I started looking through my purse only to find I had left my Apple charger in the hotel room. Did I mention it was brand new? There was now a very grumpy camera couple sitting in traffic trying to make it to Kentucky. Once we got through the never ending line we made our way to Dunkin Donuts in hopes of lifting our spirits and caffeine levels for the remainder of the journey. As we walked out of the building (still grumbling about leaving my charger for the cleaning lady's keeps) Cameron stopped dead in his tracks. Could it be? Low and behold an Apple iPhone 6 charger cord! It was probably one of the most coincidental and hilarious things that has ever happened to us. We stared in disbelief and I took the cord lying on the ground making our way back to the highway laughing at how our day was going. As we entered into Kentucky that is where things really got interesting. While we were planning we forgot to factor in a few things. The first one being that we lost an hour because of the time changes. So all the "extra" time we thought we had was now cut shorter. The other thing we got hung up on was the amount of traffic in Louisville from construction. The entire bridge and exit ramps were shut down for road work making it entirely impossible to navigate through the city. It was an absolute nightmare. After riding the same route twice with a confused GPS (she thought our car was in water), Cameron finally ignored it all and just kept driving. We both nervously watched as our time was now cut too close for comfort. We were unsure if we would even make it in time. P.S. in case you haven't noticed...there is not much documented photography from this leg of the trip. We were far too stressed to capture any pictures. After a bit more nonsense traffic we made it with 20 minutes to spare. We got lost around the campground/ fairgrounds area because we tried avoiding traffic but joke was on us of course. Anyway we ended up parking and heading to the stage. Our night turned around when we bought t-shirts and since it was the last one the guy sold me it for 5 dollars. Sundy Best gave an awesome performance in their home state and we ended up getting an awesome selfie with them after the show! And we got to meet the band that helped make it all happen! What had started out as a goofy morning and afternoon, ended on a great night! The next day we decided to make our way back to Maryland and stop at Cameron's favorite place: Deep Creek Lake. Deep Creek is close to the West Virginia border so we had a beautiful drive through the mountains up from Kentucky. The drive was short and traffic free for us which was a relief after the day before. We made it to the lake and drove around enjoying the scenery until the sun set. We grabbed food before finding our hotel and conclude with a relaxing night back in the east. We decided to end with a real bang and wake up the next morning and rent a boat. Cameron has his boating license so we put it to good use on the lake. It was probably the most wonderful way to end a month road trip. Just the two of us enjoying the peace and quiet of the lake out in the sunshine. It was absolutely perfect. We putted around for 4 hours admiring the beautiful lake homes and picking out our favorites. We stopped the boat to jump in and cool off before heading back to shore. After our refreshing lake swim we stopped at UNO to get pizza and drinks then decided to see a movie before making our way to Westminster. I forget the name of the pet movie that was in theaters but Cameron and I didn't enjoy it all too much. With full bellys and happy hearts we made our way back home. The drive was calming yet had a sad feel to it. A month of traveling to new places and seeing our families had come to a close. It was bittersweet but an experience and trip we will not forget! On to the next adventure and thanks for following along! "No road is too long with good company."
