Y'know, instead of lazy days? Get your shocked faces ready. Are they ready? The minute we hit the confirm button on the campsite checkout website, the weatherman told us that the rain apocalypse was upon us for the weekend we had just booked. This was the second time that we tried to book a campsite at Lake Badin. The first time got rained out too. This campsite isn't far from home. We actually bring the canoe over to this area pretty regularly and paddle around on the neighboring Lake Tillery. We debated canceling again but in the end we decided to take a change and go camping anyways! If it got real bad, we could just pack up and head to a more stable structure. The road to the campsite took us way back into the woods and really tested the suspension of the truck and the trailer. When we pulled into the campsite there was NOBODY there. The rain must have scared them off! It was really just us, the camp host, and maybe two other campsites. Our site was huge and had a big grassy area behind the trailer parking that led down to the lake. Once we got all set up, we grabbed our chairs (and cooler) and headed down to the shore. We quickly realized that we didn't have enough beer to sustain us for a full night! Upon realizing our mistake, we made way to the nearest store; which turns out is really far away. But we made it, and got back with plenty of time to chill in the lake and get tons of goofy pictures. It's a good thing we didn't call off the camping trip due to rain. There was no apocalypse in sight! Blue skies, sun, warm water, it was a perfect day. Then we heard a sound... It started faint and got louder and louder. The sun started to disappear. Still standing in the water, we looked out over the lake and saw a wall of thick rain coming right for us. Rose and Luna ran for the cover of the woods. I thought it looked like fun! We played in the rain for a bit before heading back to the trailer to dry off.
Apparently all the excitement of the huge storm tuckered us out because all three of us were down for the count as soon as we got back to the trailer. We woke up from our accidental nap just in time for dinner. Don't you love when that happens!? Wake up, you gotta eat! The rain had stopped so we cooked dinner outside among the fireflies. I tried to get a cool long-exposure picture of them but it never turned out quite right. A magical end to the weekend that wasn't supposed to happen.
