I had always heard about how beautiful Cherokee, NC was from my coworkers. Driving through the Great Smokey Mountains it wasn't hard to believe. What we didn't realize that if we had heard it was beautiful, so had everyone else. Cherokee was a tourist trap to beat all tourist traps (for now...). They had little Indian Trading posts, dancers, turquoise jewelry, the whole bit. People in every direction! We made it to the hotel which, thankfully, was just out of town so we didn't have to fight traffic to get out of the parking lot. Our room was even riverfront! As long as you can see over the pool... and the other building in the hotel complex... and nobody was standing there... It really was a nice place I'm just being picky. Obviously we weren't going back into Cherokee for the night so we did some research and saw that Bryson City was just down the street about 10 miles away. They even had a brewery! So, you know, we had to go! Bryson City was great. It was just a little town with a bunch of restaurants, shops and bars. We walked the whole city, had a few beers and some fried pickled okra at the brewery, had a burger at a restaurant down the street, and finished the night out with some homemade candy and ice cream. It would be hard to ask for much more than that! They even had some live music playing on a rooftop bar but we were a little late to catch that. Maybe next time!
Tomorrow we head to Tennessee!
