Well, by July 15th, the new Mr. & Mrs. CameraCouple were off traveling back to Canada again! Only this time, there were two new rings on our fingers.

It has taken us over eight states, two countries and 1,400 miles, but we finally made it to Deer Isle, Maine!
Well it's here! After a year of being engaged the big moment has arrived. FOREVER. Cameron and I planned our wedding for July 13, 2019 up in Deer Isle. Of course, being the (now camping) Camera Couple, we had to do a destination wedding filled with a gorgeous two-week road trip. The plan was to leave from North Carolina, head up to Niagara Falls and go through Canada back down into Maine. After the wedding we planned our honeymoon for Nova Scotia! Passports get ready!!
Way back, Rose and I bought tickets to see Old Crow Medicine Show at Pisgah Brewing Company. We had never been there, or even to the area, so we decided to head out a few months early and do a scouting expedition. Other interesting sights in the area include the Blue Ridge Parkway, Catawba Falls, and Mount Mitchell: the highest peak on the east coast. What a perfect opportunity to get in some precious mountain time!
Easter weekend was here...time to get our camp on! While researching places to camp a few weekends ago I had stumbled upon the South Carolina State Park site that advertises specific months that certain State Parks are cheaper to camp at. "Camping Specials" if you will. It just so happened that Easter weekend it was Hickory Knob State Park and Resort that was the lucky winner. For one heck of a deal I booked us 3 days, 2 nights worth of what we thought would be woodsy, peaceful camping. However, what we got was one chaotic, packed, wet and just overall bummer of a weekend.
It was the perfect weekend to escape into the woods with our camper. Each year Cameron and I sit down and create a list of goals that we hope to accomplish in the new year. For me it was to use our new trailer at least 12 times in the year. I knew with the wedding this summer it would be fairly easy since the plan was to camp through the whole trip. But still any chance we could get I would beg Cameron to take the trailer out (he wasn't hard to persuade.) We found a close by state park that had a lake and spots right on the water. What more did we need?! We loaded up on a Friday after work and headed to Cheraw State Park.
The weekend was free. Where do we run!? We had spent all winter cooped up in the house, huddled under blankets, dreaming of the day that we can once again use the truck and trailer we have been paying for neglected out in the yard. Finally the time had come. We had taken the Monday off from work for a three day weekend. So where do we go? Rain was in the forecast for the Carolinas. To the South and East: rain. To the North and West: ice. It seemed as if the first camping trip of 2019 was off to a rough start. If we aimed right, there was a small triangle in Georgia that had a lesser chance for rain. We took the shot.
Rose and I made lists of things we would like to get accomplished for the year, and one of Rose's items was 'travel to a new state.' Neither of us had ever been to Vermont, and it was about time for our annual trip up North. We decided to take a few extra days and make a mini (for us) roadtrip of it!
It's been a long week so we decided to get away for the weekend. Okay, so it's been a normal work week but that's enough for us! Last year we accidentally stumbled upon the Pisgah State Park and had a great time running through the woods and climbing on the rocks. Now we have a tent and a backyard to dry it off in, so we decided to pack the car with just the essentials and head out; overnight this time!
This is my third time to Massachusetts. Every time I have visited I've wanted to see Plymouth and Salem. Historical stuff always interested me. It's fascinating to actually see the places that you learn about. Unfortunately that can also mean you get your hopes up about how cool they are in reality.
Plymouth Rock. It sounds so grand and majestic. You almost picture a cliff with a sunset behind it, Mayflower docked in the water below and a buckled shoe perched majestically on the rock. Oh, that's just me huh? Let's just say that the image in my head didn't quite match up to reality... Traveling for the holidays is a necessity that most people dread. Not us! This year would be the first year that we spend both Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years together. Since we went to Maryland for Thanksgiving, that means that Massachusetts is up for Christmas! For those of you that are geographically challenged, the drive from North Carolina to Massachusetts is a long one. We knew we had to do it in two days but weren't quite sure where to stop in between. Maryland was the obvious choice since we know people there and it wouldn't cost us anything; but we have been there before! Rose had some points from Choice Hotels and scored us a free hotel room. Atlantic City here we come!
Ever since our Tennessee trip we have been wanting to drive the rest of the Blue Ridge Parkway. And since we are not quitters on roadtrips, we decided to do the entire thing from beginning to end. Well, we already did the end piece so we wanted to finish the rest and go from its start in Charlottesville, VA all the way to Asheville, NC.
Well, the entire reason for our weekend getaway was to get to Tennessee. On Sunday morning we got up bright and early and headed out to check off a new state from our list! We spent the night just outside of Cherokee, NC the night before and the road to Tennessee was a straight shot down a beautiful mountain road through the falling leaves.
I had always heard about how beautiful Cherokee, NC was from my coworkers. Driving through the Great Smokey Mountains it wasn't hard to believe. What we didn't realize that if we had heard it was beautiful, so had everyone else.
We had a free weekend. Finally! Obviously we had to make the best of it. On our wall we have a map of all the states that we have traveled to together and there was a nice little hole right in the middle of our coast states! We had been to every state on all sides of Tennessee but never stepped foot in the state together. I had been with my family previously (Memphis is my favorite) but Rose had never been at all. Well we live in North Carolina now so we don't have any excuse not to go!
